For a Knocked-Out Tooth
- Pick up the tooth by the crown (white part), never by the root.
- If dirty, rinse gently with milk or saline — do not scrub or remove tissue.
- Try to reinsert into the socket and hold it in place, OR store in milk/saliva.
- Get to a dentist within 30 minutes for the best chance of saving it.
For a Broken Tooth
- Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area.
- Save any broken pieces — bring them to the dentist.
- Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling on the outside of the cheek.
- Call the dentist immediately for same-day repair.
For Severe Toothache
- Rinse your mouth with warm salt water to clean and soothe the area.
- Use a cold compress on the outside of your cheek near the painful area.
- Take over-the-counter painkillers (ibuprofen). Do NOT place aspirin on gums.
- Call the dentist — persistent pain indicates a serious problem.
For Facial Swelling
- Do NOT ignore — swelling can indicate a spreading infection (abscess).
- Apply a cold compress to the swollen area from the outside.
- Do NOT take aspirin (can worsen bleeding if infection requires surgery).
- Call us immediately — severe infections can be life-threatening.
For Dental Trauma
- Apply firm but gentle pressure with clean gauze to stop any bleeding.
- Use a cold compress to reduce swelling and manage pain.
- Do NOT try to move or reposition displaced teeth.
